Have we ever stopped to realise what an important part of our lives, fear is? How much importance and power we give it, in every area of our lives? When we need to plan or decide something, entering a new relationship, making important changes.
Taking a step towards trying something new, that calls to us, taking a responsibility, dealing with sudden challenges, health and relationship issues, our own or of loved ones. The fear of rejection, of loss, of abandonment. What exactly does fear do? What exactly is fear? The biggest illusion in our lives. That has no reality, except what we choose to colour it with. We can see it as a tiny flutter of nervousness or a giant monster that is ready to devour us. The most amazing thing about fear is that it cannot exist in the present moment. It’s always in the future. What can or might happen, in the next moment or coming days, weeks etc. The fear is always not so much about what may happen, but how we will deal with it, rise up to face it, what will happen to us?
Since it is an illusion, a patch of darkness that rises suddenly and grows and diminshes, according to our response, it can dissolve just as easily too. Like the monster under our beds, which was so real when we were small. We had to only be brave enough to look under the bed to see it disappear. So too with our fears. When we look calmly at them and face them, bravely asking them, what is the worst that they can do? Our legs may be shaking and our hearts beating fast. But in that moment of trust and courage, we are surprised to see our fear shrinking and slinking away. Did I say “our” fear? That is just the problem. Don’t make it ours. It’s just randomly there, because it caught the fancy of the ego mind.
The moment we disown it, it dissolves. When we live in surrender to the divine and his plan for all beings, fear and expectations drop away. Because we have moved away from doership to just being in the moment and responding to the best of our ability. Challenges, accidents, dangers, and other things may come up. But now, fear that only makes things worse will not be there. We will now move through everything with ease, and grace.
